The ozone layer

Ozone, an atmospheric gas, forms an envelope around Earth, known as the ;Ozone Layer.; The destruction and regeneration reactions of ozone balance out naturally. However, atomspheric pollution is causing the ozone layer to thin, damaging the shield that protects the planet against the Sun's ultraviolet rays.
